I realized I hadn't done any updates on the job situation so I figured I would fill in the 2 whole readers I still have of this blog.

I landed a new job shortly after the lay off. The week before I started I interviewed with another company. The week after I stared they offered me that job. I feel so loved! The one with that company offered better benefits and more pay. However, it did contain some customer service type work that I really didn't want to do. I also really didn't want to work back down town 8-5. So, I decided the money wasn't really worth it right now. Besides, where I am I have more potential for movement.

It is tough, taking a step back in pay and seniority at this stage of my life. Starting over again at almost 40 isn't easy. Especially when you feel as crappy as I do some days. (Not that seniority helped me at my old job).

I have been enjoying the company though. The team I am on is really nice, I like the people. It is a very diverse organization. The drive has been nice too. It is much closer to home. Even though I have to be there at 8 it isn't as bad as it would be going down town. I hope someday to get to go in at 7, but my boss is a bit of a micro manager when it comes to time, so I will work on fixing her. Or after my initial year is up, I will try for another position on another team or even in another department.

But for now I am OK. The job is OK. I miss having extra spending money, but we will be alright.
And maybe in the long run this will be better.

BIOS WHAT?

About a week ago my laptop started to go black just because. I could boot it back up, but it was annoying. Today it wouldn’t start up. Finally I got it to boot, but then it wanted something called the BIOS Password.

WTF?

I don’t have a clue. I managed to bypass that with a fingerprint log in, but now it has problems starting up and starts up in some weird mode that isn’t right. It also is making me verify a certificate for almost every website I try to go to.

GGGGRRR.

Mostly I am a computer retard. So I don’t know.

Then, like a ton of bricks it hit me.

I bought an extended warranty…but…for how long.

I bought this laptop in summer 2006. Maybe I’m screwed.

I find the paperwork for the warranty good until…

July 18, 2009.

For the past few weeks Tweak has been a bit obsessed with licking, chewing and pulling on his junk. It was getting out of control.

So, I google it, "Dog pulls on penis".

Come to find out it can be a sign of infection.

Rob takes him to the vet today. He does have a small infection, but not enough to warrant an irritation bad enough for him to be pulling on it. My vet's expert opinion...it's behavioral.

Friday we hauled our full stomachs up to Idaho Falls to visit a traveling Egyptian art exhibit. It was a lot of fun. I couldn't take my camera or cell phone into the museum, but we got some pictures by the river.

It has been a week, and it is only Monday.

I hope everyone had a great holiday. I had a lot of fun, despite the sadness I felt for Jeremy and his family. My condolences to them.

Work sucks right now. Same shit different day. I worked 11 and 1/2 hours today, no breaks or lunch, because we have an account rep who is an idiot.

I started my new drug plaquenil. So far so good, it will take a few months to start working. We'll see. At least I won't get malaria.

I'm not really in the mood to post, but I have been neglectful. Eh... time to go get on the treadmill, after working almost 12 hours, then coming home and cooking dinner, because apparently nobody else can.

When I saw the doctor last week we decided that since I have now been on the maximum dose of chemo that I should try and get of the steroids. So last week I cut them down to half a pill a day. By Friday I knew it wasn't going to work. If I sat down for any length of time it was a struggle to get up again. So I definitely won't be going to the "stop taking them all together" phase of this test. I am back to one full pill one one day then half the next. It am more achy than with a full pill, but it is tolerable.

When I see her again (on my birthday, happy birthday to me) in December she will try the Plaquenil (the antimalarial). Hopefully that will work and I will finally get off the roids.

The new doctor

I saw my new doctor today up at the U Hospital. My appointment was at 8, I assumed I would be done by 9 at the latest. 10:30 and I was finally done. I actually only saw the doctor for a few minutes. I will be working with the "fellow" mostly. She was really nice. I liked her. (Dee, she looked like Allison) She spent about an hour talking to me, and examining every joint I have. Then I had to get labs and x-rays. It had been about a year since my last x-rays so it was time for more. They keep updated x-rays to watch the progression of the RA. They only x-ray the hands. That way they will know how far the destruction of the joints progresses. I actually think it will be a nice idea to see someone who is a young doctor in stead of an older doctor. Youth sometimes has new knowledge.

I'm not a fool, I know there will be destruction. In a few years she will start heart tests also to see how bad the drugs and disease are hurting my organs if at all. I'm not kidding myself about that either, I have read any and all literature I can get my hands on. There will probably be destruction.

She is weaning me off of the steroids and upping the dosage of chemo. Great...more hair loss. She said if I lose too much hair, or if this doesn't work we will try something else. She doesn't want to jump to a biologic just yet because of the adverse reaction I had to the Humira.

However, the biologics would be the best course to get rid of the horrible fatigue I have been having. *sigh*

Oh well. Like I once read somewhere, "I have a horrible disease, but it doesn't have me" -credit unknown.

I won't let it win.

The surgery went great. He said it went smoother than a lot of pins he has had to do. He is recovering at the vets office right now. He should be home tomorrow or Thursday.

Jennifer Bunker will be here tomorrow. Her grandfather passed away. The funeral is Thursday. I am excited to see her, I just wish it were under better circumstances.

Last night Dee and I went and saw some really bad community theater. Meh, whatever, we planned on it being pretty bad.

I got home and Rob meets me on the porch holding Tweak. “He’s hurt his leg” he says. He puts him down and he isn’t putting any weight on his hind leg and he has that slightly in shock glazed look on his face.

Apparently he was playing with Kenny and slipped on the concrete deck out back and landed spread eagle. When he tried to get up he started yelping.

My grandmother gave him one of the rimadyl we keep. It eased the pain a bit.

*sigh*

Let’s go.

We took him to the new Utah Pet Center. It includes 24 hour urgent care.

We get there, get him in. They started him immediately on pain meds and anti-inflammatories. Take the token x-rays. He has fractured the big bone in his leg, right above his knee. It cannot be set, it cannot be cast, it cannot be splinted. It must be plated and pinned back together.
There will be a surgeon at that facility that can do this surgery on Monday, but I am first going to see if my regular vet can do it. It will probably be a lot cheaper, and I trust him.

Until then we have to keep him from trying to move on it too much. Easier said than done.

Hopefully the pain meds will keep him groggy.

Rob and I went and saw the new X-Files movie today "X-Files I Want To Believe". The title is in reference to two things. If you were a fan of the show (an Xphile) you might remember the poster Mulder kept on his wall at his office. It was of a UFO with the words "I Want To Believe" at the bottom. It also refers to one of the sub themes of the show, and major themes of the movie. Belief. Not just in aliens, psychics, or monsters, but belief in god.

The movie was a good X-Files episode. Not a great one. And that was my problem with it. I didn't just want a great X-Files episode, I wanted a great X-Files Movie. It had been so long since the first movie, and so long since the show, and even longer since the show had been good that I was hoping enough time had passed that they could put so much more into it. I wanted above and beyond creepy I wanted REALLY FUCKING CREEPY.
I wanted more.

I at least wanted them to have Duchovny grow out his own beard.

I may have even taken a remake of this... but probably not.

This morning ended up being a lot of fun. Rob and I went to see Hellboy II. It was a fun movie. We bumped into Lorene and Dylan going to see the same movie. So we got to sit together and have a bonding moment over a screaming baby and Barry Manilow.

As we were leaving we ran into the Poor clan. They were headed to see Walle.

Yea for seeing good friends unexpectedly.

Now I am home nursing a sick Kenny. He has had the runny bums for several days. He seems otherwise fine, no fever, he is eating and drinking and playing. I will see what tomorrow brings.

Saturday evening we went to dinner with the Adams. We went and tried The Acme Burger Company. REALLY good food. And REALLY strong crown and cokes.

Last night I had planned on going to bed early. I haven’t been sleeping well and I was exhausted. So, I sat down on my sofa to watch KO before bed. I completely forgot about the campaign stuff.

I ended up watching MSNBC through McDumbass’ speech and all the way through Obamas speech. Then I was so excited I couldn’t sleep. Shit.

Here is a brief synopsis of my thoughts on each speech.

McCain…OUCH. I never knew he could be so, creepy. It was as if saying the words were painful to him. Oh and then when he would try and smile, more ouch. I had to change the channel a few times because I felt uncomfortable for him. Obama is going to kick his ass during the debates.

Clinton…BITCH. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t hate her, and if she had been the nominee I would have voted for her over McDumbass. However, it was QUITE apparent that she only cares about herself and not her party from her speech last night. She continued to perpetuate the lie that she has more popular votes. She continued to perpetuate the exaggeration that she is more electable. She is not gracious and that was obvious.

Obama…charismatic. It is his ability to speak with such tenacity, care and charisma that have perpetuated him from a nobody in politics to the nominee for president. He was cool, calm and generous in his praise of Clinton and McCain. I was glad that he mentioned the religious divide in his speech. I see him as a true uniter, not a divider.

I look forward to having him as our next president.

Durango was a beautiful town, if you have never been there you should go. The train ride was a lot of fun even though it snowed.

It was really hot in Vegas about 110. Rob's brother won the fight TKO in the second round. Not bad.

I have been so busy and tired though since coming home. It has been one madness after another. But we did learn we can fix the sprinkler system on our own if we have to. :)

I hope all is well with Chet and Shane during this crappy time. It was good to hear that Chet's surgery went well. Now I really need to get out there and find him that Phantom of the Opera mask. YOU KNOW I LOVE YOU AND AM JUST KIDDING. But seriously, that would be cool.

On Monday it was the annual Taste of Kearns celebration. Since my grandparents are very active at the local senior center they volunteered to help out at the party that was being held at Kearns high school. They got there early to help set up the center booth. They parked in the closest handicap stall put in the handicap placard and went in. A few minutes later a Sheriffs deputy came in and told them they had to move their car. My grandmother said, “no, I have a placard, and proof of the placard if you really need that.” They then told her “well you look OK to walk a bit, so you will need to move down so others can use that stall later.”

Seriously folks, don’t mess with my grandmother.

My grandfather moved the car, the cop then told my grandmother “thanks for doing that.” “No”, she said, “don’t thank me yet, this isn’t over.”

When Mayor Caroon got there she told him what happened. He then told Karen Mayne (our local senator), who then had words with the chief of police, who then had words with all of the deputies in attendance. He then came over and apologized to my grandmother and told her he was now sure this would never happen again to anyone, ever.

I love my grandmother. She is feisty. And bitchy. I know where I get it from.

Saturday Rob and I went and saw the Iron Man movie. It is INCREDIBLE! Robert Downey Jr. is incredible, and he buffed up for the movie and wow! YUMMY! I always thought he was hot in a bad boy kind of way, but this made him even more... orgasmic.

Old People and the end of the world

The cable has been acting up. Not all of the cable on all of the TV’s just the one upstairs on the TV my grandparents watch. It is the only one in the house with a digital box.

It is also playoffs for the Utah Jazz. One of the channels that wouldn’t come in was the channel the Jazz games are broadcast on. I’m pretty sure it is one of the first signs of Armageddon. At least that is what it felt like. No Jazz=end of the world, it is a fact.

So Saturday was spent taking the old digital box back and getting it replaced with a shiny new HD DVR cable box. Now we have to teach my grandfather how to work all the buttons. You can teach an old dog new tricks, you just shouldn’t give old people too many buttons.

Saturday morning we also learned that the MIL’s customized van was having muffler problems, and they couldn’t afford to get it fixed, so we took it and got a new muffler. I guess because of her wheel chair ramp modifications that the muffler pipe had to be rerouted under the van. But whatever, it’s done and now the BOWs is mobile again.

We then got to drive north to Layton to see Lagi sing one song in a regional HS singing competition. She was singing in a trio. She was really good. I wonder how much gas we used for that journey.

Yesterday we learned that my Uncle on my Dad's side has pancreatic cancer. It is terminal. Today they will decide if they will act on any of it to delay the inevitable or let it go.

I think I need a drink of something.

This weekend was actually a lot of fun. Saturday (early) we started draining the hot tub for the spring cleaning and refill. Around 10:30 we took Kenny to the dog park. He had so much fun. He loves it there.

Saturday night we went to the party at Chet and Shane's house. It was a lot of fun. Good food, good people and good entertainment with the drunken straight men trying on the clothes of the gay men.

It was also good to know that Brian and Jeremy would like to have sex with the blue streak in my hair...

We also got to meet some great new people. Ed is just hilarious and his wife is so sweet.

I saw this story on the MSN site yesterday. It is the story about the little girl who was born in India with two faces. It is kind of creepy. BOTH FACES WORK. Last night I was playing on my computer and Tweak and Kenny were doing what they usually do which is play right behind my chair. Then there was the silence. When there are puppies around silence can be one of two things, exhaustion or trouble. I assumed it was exhaustion because those two had been at it for at least an hour.

I called them and out from under the old dresser we have in the "junk room/office" Tweak sticks his head. He had stolen a choo hoove from Kenny and that was the only place he could chew it without Kenny being able to take it back. I managed a picture before he burrowed back under the dresser. He looks somewhat pissed.

Heard this on one of the Atheist podcasts I listen to.

NEW HAIR CUT

Tweak got his first haircut on Friday. Now his face looks like an owl. He gets more shots this weekend and his back bump looked at.

AND in other news, Rob is going back to work at United Stationers. He will start on March 31. It will be a better fit for him. I am excited to have our weekends together back.

Flood!

Last week we had an earthquake! This week it's a flood.

I get home yesterday afternoon and only Bear is at the door to greet me. That is VERY unusual. Most days there is a flood of dogs at the back door and someone quickly picking up the puppy so he doesn't get trampled on.

So, when I come in the back door and there is only Bear and NOBODY else around I know that something is up. I yell, "heeelllllooooo". Nothing. A moment later my grandfather comes in from the hall way carrying an arm full of towels and the puppy. "What's up?" I ask. "The ice maker flooded."

Now, if anyone has one of those automatic ice makers you know that they dribble water into the tray, freeze then dump. So if it is going to flood it should be a small drip or even small stream.

I notice the freezer door is open and I walk over to it, there is at least a gallon of water on the floor. Water is dripping all over in the freezer. I ask where Rob is. "Downstairs". I take off downstairs, there is about another 2 gallons of water down there in the laundry room pooled around the furnace and hot water heater dripping from the floor above. My grandmother is mopping and Rob is with a flash light inspecting the water lines. Luckily we have a drop ceiling in the laundry room so that it didn't ruin drywall. "What happened?" I ask. He said he heard an odd noise and then WOOSH. Water everywhere. He said it came gushing out of the front of the ice maker and out the dispenser for the ice on the door and out the bottom of the door and into the basement, from the floor above.

So he goes upstairs to check the water line to the back of the fridge which appears in tact. I stay downstairs and clean that up. I then turn off the tap to the water line in the basement. We turn off the ice maker itself and call the Maytag repair man. While I am making the appointment the guy asks what happened. I told him it gushed at least 3 gallons of water. He said that was something he hadn't ever heard of an ice maker doing, was I sure it came from the ice maker? I told him that the fact that it shot out the front of the ice maker was a pretty good indication that it came from there.

Thursday they are coming to fix it. Until then, bagged ice.

Rob and I just watched the TiVoed Knight Rider movie. I liked it, I liked the original series. I didn't realized it started 25 years ago.

That made me feel old.

We went to go visit Tweak Thursday and we got to bring him home! Yea!!!!

He is so cute and sweet. We have to take him back in two weeks for his second set of shots. We are happy to have him home, even if we are now very exhausted from crying puppy nights.

Today I made an appointment with an Otolaryngologist (ENT). It is over 2 weeks with this ear infection. When I went back to my PCP on Tuesday she upped my steroids, gave me higher strength antibiotics, steroid spray to try and shrink my sinuses (but I can breathe just fine) and numbing ear drops. Guess what? I still have the POS infection. When I saw her she had said that my drum was bulging so bad she wouldn't be surprised if it didn't burst. EEEWWWW!!! But I know that it would feel a whole lot better if it would just explode. It doesn't seem to want to either explode or drain. Since I take chemotherapy drugs for my RA I really don't have my own immune system to fight this, and I have excellent hearing that I don't want to compromise. Even though the irritation of my ear being plugged up so bad I can't hear out of it is annoying, the pain that is radiating through my head and neck and jaw is what is driving me to madness.

So Monday, hopefully, the ENT will pop the drum. I'm threatening him... either he does it or I am sticking a pencil in there; his choice.

I'm listening to a local NPR radio show right now. They are talking about how sad it was that Romney couldn't win the nomination because the christian religious right won't vote for a mormon so Huckabee took all of those votes.

BIG FUCKIN' WAAAAA!!!

No, it isn't the fault of Huckabee or his particular sheeple. This is the fault of the entire republican party pandering to the religious right to get their votes. This goes back to Regan and the beginning of the religious right as a political force in this country. And this is the fault of politicians that pander to them.

Romney got Utah by 90%. You don't think the sheeple here voted for him just because he is mormon???? Hello pot, meet kettle.

I don't feel a bit sorry for Mitt because he is being descriminated against because he is a mormon... He descriminated against me in his "freedom requires religion" bullshit speech.

I have been on the drugs for my ear and sinus infection for almost a week. I should be feeling much better, instead, I am feeling much worse. The throat feels better, the sinus feels better, but damn my ear hurts so bad that the whole side of my head, face, neck and even back hurts.

I left a message for the Doctor yesterday afternoon to see if I can get some stronger drugs. I hope they call this morning. I am tired of being sick and feeling like shit.

Not only that, I am tired of being sick. I went from cold to flu and now I am back to a cold and this one is killing my throat.

I have noticed lately that my hair is falling out. I am not sure if it was a side effect of the Humira and it will get better now that I have stopped. I hope so. Or, it could be from the chemo and well it will have to be either bald or wig eventually.

The doctor has taken me off the Humira. He was worried about it causing some horrible cellulitis. I will go back on the roids for now. When I see him again we will work on maybe trying something else. He said I could maybe try the remicade, but I might want to wait for that. The thought of an IV every 6-8 weeks doesn't thrill me.

Ah well, what do you do...
